Hello Niels

By default, BGP will only advertise the best path for a particular destination. However, it is possible to configure BGP to load balance traffic using several methods, both for ECMP and unequal-cost multipath routing. Specifically, you can take a look at these lessons:

> BGP supports ECMP (Equal Cost Multi-Path) routing but by default, it only uses a single path. Cisco IOS supports load balancing for eBGP and iBGP.

> BGP additional paths let your iBGP routers advertise multiple additional paths next to the best path. This allows you to use load balancing and multipath.

You can also find information at the following NetworkLessons notes:

- [BGP Equal cost multipath](https://notes.networklessons.com/bgp-equal-cost-multipath)
- [BGP load balancing](https://notes.networklessons.com/bgp-load-balancing)

Finally, for more information about fine-tuning your BGP configuration to get a more specific split of load balancing, you can use BGP traffic engineering, a technique that helps you optimize and control traffic flow. More info can be found at [this NetworkLessons note on BGP traffic engineering](https://notes.networklessons.com/bgp-traffic-engineering) as well as at the following post:

> Hello Mohamad The process of optimizing and controlling traffic flow within a network based on the BGP protocol is called BGP traffic engineering. It is possible with various techniques to achieve very granular manipulation of traffic including getting an 80/20 split of traffic across two links. There are several ways you can approach this. The simplest is probably using [AS-Path prepending](https://networklessons.com/bgp/how-to-configure-bgp-as-path-prepending). You can configure a primary and secondary BGP peering with two neighbors, create a route-map that wil…
