EIGRP Auto-Summary

Hello Charles

In the future, we would appreciate it if you could write in English so that all of our participants can understand your question. For now, I will restate your question in English:

hello Mr RENE, I do not understand this sentence

Take a close look though…even if R2 is configured with auto-summarization, it will not summarize subnet 1.1.1.0/24 to classful network 1.0.0.0/8. This is because EIGRP Auto-Summarization will only create summary routes for directly connected networks, not for routes you learn from other EIGRP routers.

What Rene is clarifying here is the fact that auto summarization will only create summary routes for directly connected networks. So even though R2 has learned about the 1.1.1.0/24 and it has auto-summary enabled, it won’t advertise the 1.1.1.0/24 network to R3 as a summary route of 1.0.0.0/8. It will advertise it keeping the /24 mask. If however, the 1.1.1.0/24 network was on one of R2’s interfaces, then we would see this advertised as 1.0.0.0/8.

Does that make sense?

I hope this has been helpful!
