hi Rene,

I just want to ask if there is a possibility to differentiate between the equipment linked to a switch.To explain more,for example, I had in my server room an accountable cables and disordered, I need to make them in order by categories (printers, desktop,router,cameras…).
so my question is how can i know through CLI commands what type of material linked to each interface on the switch?

Hi Aicha,

There’s a couple of options here.

Cisco devices can be detected through CDP and some other vendors use LLDP.

You can also check the MAC address table and look for the OUI of the MAC address. That will tell you the vendor of whatever is connected to your interface.

Those are basically the only two things you can do from the switch.
