Hello Valli

The following lesson explains the various types of paths that OSPF shares, and the way that these are examined before looking at their metrics. These include External type 1 and External type 2 OSPF routes.

> OSPF will select a path based on the origin BEFORE looking at the cost of the path. In this lesson, I'll explain to you how it works.

Now more info on the E1 and E2 routers and why they exist and how they are useful for redistribution can be found at the following post:

> Hello Sims I’m assuming you’re asking about External type 1 and 2 for OSPF, correct? You can find out more information about those at the following lesson: [https://networklessons.com/cisco/ccie-enterprise-infrastructure/ospf-path-selection-explained](https://networklessons.com/cisco/ccie-enterprise-infrastructure/ospf-path-selection-explained) Now in a real-world scenario, when we redistribute, why would we choose E1 over E2 or E2 over E1? Well, first take a look at this post to remind us of how path cost is measured for E1 and E2: [https://forum.networklessons.com/t/ospf-path-selecti…](https://forum.networklessons.com/t/ospf-path-selection-explained/969/35)

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask!

I hope this has been helpful!
