CCN Recertification | Encor or two specialist certs

Hello everybody,
I was just wondering, I’m due to re-certify my CCNP R&S(Now Enterprise) and I would like to know your opinion on which one is better in terms of practical knowledge among other things. I don’t really care which one is easier, but up until today, I was decided into sitting ENCOR until I saw a few topics on Cisco Website from the specialists certs such as ENARSI and ENSLD and boy do I want take those!!!

Regards,

Hello Carlos

Cisco has been a little bit cryptic about how to recertify. Looking at the exam web pages on the official Cisco site, it doesn’t tell you what the prerequisites are for recertification. However, there is a recertification policy site that, from my understanding says the following. If you have a valid CCNP, whether that’s CCNP R&S or Enterprise, then in order to recertify you must either pass a core exam or pass two concentration exams. So if you choose to, you don’t have to take the ENCOR exam, but you can take ENARSI and ENSLD which are concentration exams, and you will have successfully renewed your CCNP. The recertification policy site is found here:

There are other options as well, and you can see them all there. From the point of view of practical knowledge, you can simply take ENARSI and ENSLD and you’ve got what you need!

I hope this has been helpful!

Thank you for your reply Lazaros. My other main concern is that the cert expires(with COVID extension) on June 14 2021, do I have to pass both ENARSI and ENSLD to recertify before expiration date or I can take ENARSI first and cisco grants some time for ENSLD and recertify CCNP Enterprise?

Hello Carlos

My understanding is that before your current certification expires, you must either:

  1. pass a core exam
  2. pass two concentration exams

From that, I would assume that you must pass both ENARSI and ENSLD before June 14th. I don’t know if Cisco grants you an extension as soon as you pass one of those two, but from the wording of the policy, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

To be absolutely sure, it’s best to contact Cisco directly and ask them to clarify that for you so you can arrange your study and certification plan for the next few months.

I hope this has been helpful!
