CCNA Exam - VTP & DTP

Hi,

I would like to check if VLAN Trunking Protocols & Dynamic Trunking Protocols are still part of the CCNA exam?

Thank you,
Kader

Hello Kader.

My general recommendation is that whenever your resource includes something, you should cover it. It never hurts to know more.

To answer your question, DTP and VTP aren’t specifically mentioned in the exam topics BUT Cisco could argue that they fall under trunking (DTP) and VLANs (VTP) so you should cover them.

  1. 2.1 Configure and verify VLANs (normal range) spanning multiple switches

    • 2.1.a Access ports (data and voice)

    • 2.1.b Default VLAN

    • 2.1.c InterVLAN connectivity

  2. 2.2 Configure and verify interswitch connectivity

    • 2.2.a Trunk ports

    • 2.2.b 802.1Q

    • 2.2.c Native VLAN

Nearly every resource that I know includes DTP. Considering that the default administrative mode for ports on a switch is dynamic auto, you should definitely know what DTP is and how to disable it (and why to disable it!).

VTP is covered a bit less but I still recommend you to know what it does and know some basic configuration.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
