I come across a problem at work occasionally.
Let say PC1 lose network connection on Lan port 1, But PC1 connect to other Lan ports no problem.
Other PCs connect to Lan port 1 no problem too. Only that particular PC connect to that particular port lose connection. Suppose no security rules put, anyone encoutered the same thing? Any advice?
Hello Kin
Hmm, that sounds like a very strange problem. So the PC1 only has connection problems when connected to that specific port. No other PC has problems on that port, and PC1 has no problems when connecting to other ports correct?
The first thing that comes to mind is that maybe port security is configured on that LAN port, since the specific PC is having difficulty connecting. If that is the case, then the specific MAC address may be disallowed from connecting. But from your explanation, it sounds like the loss of connectivity is intermittent, which would not be a result of port security. You also mention that there are no security rules set up on the switch.
So if it is not a configuration problem, then I would think that it is a physical layer problem. Problems like this usually don’t have a clear-cut solution. It could be an issue with the NIC on the PC, or the LAN port itself, and that some voltage threshold is not being achieved. If it’s just intermittent on that PC only, I wouldn’t worry about it. If it persists on many PCs then you would have to investigate further. If it persists, let us know of the behavior you observe so we can help you troubleshoot further.
I hope this has been helpful!
