Introduction to Redistribution | NetworkLessons.com

Hi Rene,

I have one doubt for redistribution between BGP and OSPF whether it’s good idea to generate a default route in OSPF or redistribute OSPF into BGP?

Thanks,
Manami

Hello Manami

It all depends on what you want to do. If you don’t require external clients to access your internal network, then you can easily just generate a default route in OSPF.

If you require external clients to access your internal network (Web or email servers etc) then you may want to redistribute some of your internal subnets, but this should be done carefully. You should “leak” some of your internal routes out via BGP, but you don’t want to leak everything - just the routes that you decide. You can explicitly state which routes you want to redistribute via route-maps on the BGP link.

I hope this has been helpful!
