IP multicast routing - How to override source IP of multicast on a router's outgoing port

Hello,

I would like to ask you if there is any option how to override the source IP address of sender for multicast stream on a router.

Hello Vaclav

In order to filter multicast traffic from a specific source, you can use multicast boundary filtering. You can find information about that at this lesson.

Try it out and if you have any questions about it, let us know!

I hope this has been helpful!

Dear Laz,

thank you for your answer.
My question was if there is any L3 device from Cisco which is able to overrite (do NAT) on edge port for customer.

1, example override multicast address from 239.10.10.10 to 239.10.10.20 ?

2, example override source address of Multicast stream
from
source 10.200.1.1 is sending to multicast 239.10.10.141:10000
to
source 10.200.1.2 is sending to multicast 239.10.10.141:10000
(router recieve a multicast 239.10.10.141:10000 from source 10.200.1.1 and overrite it on edge port that for end customer is going like a multicast 239.10.10.141:10000 from 10.200.1.2)

Actually we do this in a way that multiplexer is joining the multicast and is creating a new one.
But from my point of view is not really necesarry and maybe can be done by overrite.

Hello Vaclav

Cisco does support Multicast Dynamic NAT, where source address translation can take place on multicast packets, which is your example number 2. It will not however translate the multicast destination address, which is one of the things you’re looking for with example number 1. More about Multicast Dynamic NAT can be found here:

I’m not familiar with a way to override the multicast destination address however.

I hope this has been helpful!
