I taken the ENARSI 3 times and I am going for my fourth time and while I haven’t seen to much MPLS traffic engineer. I just want know what part of the MPLS TE lessons would be more geared toward the ENARSI exam?
Hello Leo
From my personal experience and what the exam topics say, none of the MPLS TE lessons are necessary. What I would only know is what protocol is used to achieve this, that’s all.
MPLS is a scary topic on the ENARSI exam because it’s complicated so I personally would only recommend you to go through Rene’s ENARSI curriculum and cover what he mentions there. That helped me more than any other resource I’ve used. I wouldn’t worry and go as far as to cover MPLS TE as the exam doesn’t require you to understand that part of MPLS.

Hello Leo
I understand that these certification exams can be tough, but I want to first commend you for your determination, and also to encourage you in the fact that your three attempts have given you more experience, both with the certification process, as well as with the content itself. Keep going!! ![]()
Now concerning the content of MPLS-TE, I concur with @davidilles who has taken this exam. Based on the current Cisco blueprint for the ENARSI exam, MPLS is only mentioned within the VPN Technologies section, and specifically states:
2.1 Describe MPLS operations (LSR, LDP, label switching, LSP)
2.2 Describe MPLS Layer 3 VPN
When it uses the word “describe,” it means you typically don’t need to have a deep and complete practical configuration-based understanding, but a good sense of how it works. Now MPLS-TE is not mentioned at all, so I would not go into any detailed study of MPLS-TE. Just know generally what it is, and the names of the technologies that are used within it (RSVP-TE, OSPF-TE, ISIS-TE etc).
I would focus on the content found in Rene’s ENARSI course and not worry too much about MPLS-TE.
Now having said all that, let me ask, in your previous attempts, did you see any MPLS-TE content, and if so, what kind of questions did you see?
I hope this has been helpful!

Lazarus, I don’t recall seeing any MPLS-TE questions but my first attempt I got blasted with MPLS and I remember seeing something about MPLS-TE. I really came across it in the BOSON exams and I really am trying to cover my bases for this 4th attempt as I really want make sure I am prepared this time.
Hello Leo
Thanks for getting back to us. Indeed, describing and understanding MPLS is an important part of the certification, and having seen it practically in your 1st attempt seems to verify this. MPLS-TE shouldn’t be a priority, but “plain old” MPLS should. It’s good that you’re covering all your bases for this one. Just be careful not to focus too much on one particular aspect at the cost of not covering enough of the rest of it…
