I am trying to convert a legacy IOS-XE configuration to SDWAN templates
has anyone used a template for 802.1q trunking ?

Unfortunately, no I have not had experience with this particular process. However, after doing some research, I have found the following general description that you can follow that may help you out:
In SD-WAN templates, the equivalent of 802.1q trunking is under the VPN Interface Ethernet configuration. Here are the steps:
- Go to the Device tab.
- Click on Templates.
- In the Feature Template section, select VPN Interface Ethernet.
- Create a new template or modify an existing one.
- In the template configuration, scroll down to the Sub-interface section.
- Click on Add New Sub-interface.
- Enter the VLAN ID under the VLAN field which corresponds to the 802.1q tag.
- Set the Interface type to Trunk.
- Remember to apply this template to the appropriate VPNs and devices. Also, don’t forget to push the configuration to the devices.
Please note that this is a basic configuration. Depending on your network design and requirements, you might need to configure additional settings like QoS, ACLs, etc.
